Since I have gotten nutrition questions and it seems that the biggest question anyone ever has about lifting has to do with nutrition, I will share what I bought today for food:
- 10 pounds of lean ground beef
- 5 pounds of lean ground turkey
- 5 pounds of sweet potatoes
- 3 pounds of Vidalia Onions
- 3 pounds of green bell peppers
- 2 jars of extra virgin coconut oil
- 2 pounds of pecans
- 2 big jars of Natty PB
- Butter, yes I love butter
- 3 pounds of bacon
- 5 dozen eggs
- various spices
- 5 pounds of apples
- 2 big bags of unsweetened coconut flakes
- 2 loafs of Ezekiel bread
- 6 quarts of lemon-lime seltzer because I like the fizzy shit
Add that to the chicken I have in the freezer, the bags of veggies I already have and I have a ton of possibilities for meal prep.
Know what this all cost?
Less than 150 bucks.
Its not rocket science to eat decently. You shouldn’t even have to count macros to do this (unless you are dieting for a show). Eat plenty of protein, plenty of good fats and carbs are going to be the equalizer. If you are gaining too much fat, lower them. If you want to add more bulk, up the carbs. It shouldn’t be made into a science project.
I picked up a good e-book the other day written by Robb Wolf here. Its a great guide, easy to use, and helps with ideas on how to keep your food budget under the Whole Foods retail price line.
My reasons for selling my soul and trying this way of eating again is because I want to see if it makes a big difference in how I feel and to discipline myself to eating healthier to prolong my life, lift harder, lift longer, gain more quality size and lean up more.
Not to be a part of the radical cult of Paleo, but to use my head and realize that if something is going to react badly with my body, I have to cut it out… so the experiment begins.
It will take more food prep, more thought but not more sacrifice, after all what is a sacrifice when it comes to feeling better?-----
