It’s a quote I put on my Facebook page and it applies to my life in a very direct way.
The last 30 months of my life have been quite insane and its not slowing down any.
Insanity isn’t always bad. You have to be a little insane to really live life. If someone asked me 7 years ago if I would be where I am now, I would have said no way.
What I didn’t believe in before, I do now. What I thought was impossible before, I now believe is possible. What I looked at as something unattainable, now is. What I saw my life as before, changed with one look…. and I am grateful for that.
I am not a perfect human by any stretch. I am flawed, I have demons, I have skeletons in my closet. What I do have is a drive and a fight to be who I want to be and where I want to be.
What I am is a teacher, a coach and an insanely passionate man. As much as I think the fitness industry is filled with nonsense is as much as I love it. I loathe the mass self-promotion of it. I prefer to be that guy in the trenches yelling at his client to not quit on themselves and then NOT brag about it on social networks.
I love to coach, I am goddamn good at it. I don’t have the namepower of some of the others, but I have well over 18 years in gym time, countless hours under the bar, experimenting with hundreds of training protocols, talking to people much smarter than I, traveling to seminars, speaking at them, competing in strength sports and team sports.
All that pales in comparison to one of my clients getting a huge PR and jumping up and down because they thought it was never possible.
All that pales in comparison to when I help an older woman with a chronically bad back text me one day (months ago) that she can do all her errands around the house pain free.
All that pales in comparison to when I see one of my pitchers (from NY) improve his fastball from 80 to 85… and he was 14.
All the personal accomplishments mean shit to me, because they come and go… my legacy is as a teacher, a coach and the guy who will push you to the limits and help you be your best.
So for all my flaws and for all the past 30 months have been, I know what I am, who I am and where I belong.
